Praça José Afonso is a large, open public square in the centre of Setúbal.
The square is used for entertainment and recreational events – particularly the city’s fairs – and to date had been occupied by a number of temporary structures and unregulated parking.
Risco’s design requalified the square while maintaining its qualities as a public leisure area.
The temporary stage, which regularly used to be set up in the square, has been replaced by a definitive one that includes an open-air auditorium with seating for 2,500 spectators, together with the various infrastructures needed for performances.
