The Micaelense Theatre in Ponta Delgada was designed by Rodrigues de Lima (also the author of the Monumental and Cinearte buildings in Lisbon).
The idea behind the restoration project was to turn the Theatre into a Cultural Centre for congresses, performances and exhibitions, while maintaining its original spirit intact.
The space was reorganised by changing the way it is divided up; the hall was equipped with modern architectural and stage systems; and the infrastructure systems and finishings were replaced. The outside of the building was restored to the original design, except for the fly tower, which was made bigger.
