Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace

The project to regenerate the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, in Dili, resulted from a tender where we presented a proposal of a Masterplan for the plot measuring approximately 9 hectares where the presidential building is currently located.

The proposed design is based on two axes: North – South and East – West, which organise the space for the new compound and the two entrances. Starting from this structure, we created a series of outdoor spaces of various natures: courtyards, gardens and boulevards. This system arranges and connects the existing and proposed buildings, giving scale to buildings that are intended to be relatively simple in their structural dimension and constructive system, thereby enabling construction to be phased in an organised manner.
