The Hotel Altis Belém is on Lisbon’s waterfront between Bom Sucesso Dock and the Folk Art Museum.
It is a 50-room, five-star hotel with sailing facilities.
Its position at right angles to the Tagus offers fine views of the city sweeping down to the river and of the riverside areas from Belém Tower to the Padrão das Descobertas (monument to the Discoveries). The scale of the design establishes a relationship with the dock and creates a kind of aquatic piazza. The hotel enters into a formal relationship with the Folk Art Museum building through the character of the eastern façade. The design opens up the hotel functionally and formally to the riverside promenade with a ground level that is open to the public and houses shops, a restaurant, café and bar and an extensive open-air seating area.
The interior plans are the work of the FSSMGN studio.
