The Opera Hotel is located in Alcântara, next to the bridge 25 de Abril.
It is a 4 star hotel with 246 rooms and 13 suites.
The neighbouring Bridge determined the various heights, alignments of the hotel design.
The hotel itself comprises two seven-floor structures built on a plinth that reproduces the scale and alignments of the Travessa do Conde da Ponte (the street next to it) and sets the boundaries of the garden beside the Avenida da Índia.
The two structures are set at an angle to each other – one parallel to the Bridge and the other parallel to the Travessa do Conde da Ponte. This makes it possible for all the bedrooms to have a view of the estuary. The solution we chose provides glimpses of both the estuary and the hillside and doesn’t impinge on the surrounding buildings – Santo Amaro Chapel, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra Building, and the Burnay Palace.
The design of the hotel (layout, shape, size and materials) takes both the pillars, solid sections and bed of the Bridge and the industrial structures that are typical of the Alcântara area as its reference points.
Risco was not responsible for the interior design work.
