International Public Design Competition for the Medellín River Park

Risco participated in partnership with Proap, in an International Public Design Competition for the Medellín River Park, Colombia, having received an honorary mention.
The river Medellín landscape is not homogeneous. It is characterized by a sequence, with variable pace, of road knots that create strong disruptions on the longitudinal landscape development combined with areas where the relationship of the city with the river is easier to attain.
Alongside the 26km river development this infrastructure system connects with a diversity of urban situations: more/less dense, permeable/impermeable, with industrial, logistic, commercial uses. Currently the river does not contribute for the qualification of the urban adjacent areas acting more as an infrastructure channel like a railroad or a highway.
Due to the impossibility of knowing all the data and actors of this complex system and rejecting to reduce our proposal to a naive configuration of a static and rigid drawing solution, we chose to develop a pre-strategic proposal, based on a set of typological solutions that are capable of creating new places, establish a new vision and answer the announced goals.
The typological solutions can be organized in a sequence, capable of producing a vision, a presupposition, devised in phases, operating sequences as well as establish as a strategic meditation that can even give way to a new scenery or vision.
It is not the formal aspects of the presented vision that interest in our proposal but the principles, the goals, the construction of an implementation logic as well as the conceptual instruments to put this logic into practice.
