3K Apartments

The 3k apartment building is located in the Restelo area of Lisbon, on high ground with a view out across the Tagus Estuary.
The site is right next to Rua Vicente Dias, which made it possible to free up part of the land for a large garden for the exclusive use of the residents.
The building’s layout is curved and its height was limited to that of the existing building on the other side of the street. The ground floor is open, which permits a visual relationship with the garden from the street.
There are four floors of apartments and one for car parking. The apartments are laid out with four sets of vertical accesses. Entry is via an external gallery, which follows the curve of the building and also provides access to the garden and the residents’ gymnasium.
In all there are 24 apartments, which were laid out such that all of them look both ways – the living rooms and kitchens face west, across a veranda, while the bedrooms look east, over the street.
The four apartments on the ground floor each have a generous terrace that leads onto the garden.
The two main façades are different. The western one is totally open to the landscape and is characterised by the continuous, regular design of the verandas. The eastern one is more closed, so as to provide greater privacy for the apartments facing the street.
Risco’s work does not include the interior design of the various homes.
