The Lisbon NATO Summit, regarded by many international political commentators as the most important summit in its history, was held on the 19th and 20th of November 2010. The event was attended by 51 countries, 43 heads of state and government, 51 delegations, 110 television channels and 2,500 journalists.
On the 19th and 20th of November 2010, Lisbon made television news headlines worldwide.
The event program was defined by NATO and required building meeting halls, dining and work halls, offices, bilateral meeting rooms, facilities for delegations, press conference halls, a press centre and a TV Compound. All of which covered about 35,000 m2 to be built in three weeks.
The event was held at the Lisbon International Fair, also known as FIL, a large infrastructure located on the Tagus River bank in Lisbon’s east end.
Because this type of event has a very short duration, the assembly time limitations called for selecting materials and construction solutions functioning like a “Lego” system. All parts were factory produced and then assembled on location, without using plasterboard, without painting and without cutting. All the materials and equipment were rented. The equipment was then returned to the respective owners and the construction materials were re-used or recycled for other purposes.
